Prayer Cheat Code: Distress

There are times I want to pray but have nothing to say. In seasons where I am truly content and don't have anything to petition God for, I have learnt to just praise him. I do so by recognising the blessings he has bestowed upon me and my family, and also recognise his character. When I've done all that and truly run out of things to say, I am stuck. I don't speak in tongues, so there's really only so far my words can take me. That's when I turn to Bible verses to either inspire me or do the praying for me.

I don't speak in tongues, so there's really only so far my words can take me. That's when I turn to Bible verses to either inspire me or do the praying for me.

Generally while reading the Bible, I try to highlight verses that would be great prayer points or affirmations. I decided to use this platform to document them because when I truly need them, I have to search the Bible app for them and I haven't been diligent about ensuring they are highlighted in the correct colour and easy to find.

It's a lot easier when 1 Psalm speaks to my specific circumstance but often only parts are particularly relevant, so I will use #PrayerCheatCode to compile personal prayers for ease of reference, when I need them most.

Distress Prayer: Compilation of verses from the Psalms

Be here for me God, for I keep trusting in you. Don't allow my enemies to gloat over me or the shame of defeat to overtake me. (Psalms 25:2 (TPT))

Answer me when I call righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer. (Psalm 4:1)

Forgive my failures and overlook the sins of my immaturity. Give me grace Yahweh! Always look at me through your eyes of love - your forgiving eyes of mercy and compassion. When you think of me, see me as one you love and care for. (Psalms 25:6-7 (TPT))

I know that your judgments are always right. Even when it’s me you judge, you’re still faithful and true. Send your kind mercy-kiss to comfort me... Love me tenderly so I can go on, for I delight in your life-giving truth. (Psalms 119:75 - 76)

Give me revelation about the meaning of your ways so I can enjoy the reward of following them fully. Give me an understanding heart so that I can passionately know and obey your truth. Guide me into the paths that please you, for I take delight in all that you say. Cause my heart to bow before your words of wisdom and not to the wealth of this world. (Psalms 119 33-36)

I’ll keep coming closer and closer to you, Lord Yahweh, for your name is good to me. I’ll keep telling the world of your awesome works, my faithful and glorious God! (Psalms 73:28)

In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety (Psalms 4:8)

No matter what, you are good to me. You are a righteous God who stood to defend,

breaking the chains of the evil ones that bound me.
